Forward Review
"Petit Pierre and the Floating Marsh is a fascinating book with two distinct strengths. The first is the story of Petit Pierre, a young pelican who must leave his mother's nest and find a new home. The second is told across the bottom of each page through facts about the Louisiana wetlands and the animals that make their home there. The book includes vibrant, lovely illustrations that support both the story of Pierre and the information about the wetlands. Though written for children ages five to nine, this book is appropriate for anyone who would like to learn about this unique ecosystem."

"The first time I saw Petit Pierre and the Floating Marsh, I loved the fun illustrations, but also understood the overall message of the importance of a healthy coastline for our region. I hope young students will enjoy hearing about the different homes of the Gulf’s favorite animals and take note that all of them live in the wetlands. As they learn more about the coastline and the animals that live there, they will hopefully be eager to learn more and be compelled to care for the animals’ home."

“Award-winning children’s book author Johnette Downing delivers another adorable tale, this time involving a pelican hesitant to leave home in “Petit Pierre and the Floating Marsh,” published by Pelican Publishing of New Orleans. The story, illustrated beautifully with dreamy impressionistic style by Heather Stanley, explores the Louisiana marsh and its varied inhabitants, sneaking in bits of science for children to absorb. The book has been selected to represent Louisiana Sept. 24 at the National Book Festival in Washington D.C."
